Between them, more than fifty years of clinical practice — and four divorces.
That second number is not incidental. Everyone who leads this organisation has been through the thing it treats, and came to the work afterwards rather than before. The method was not studied from a distance; it was used first.
Kevin Van Liere
Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer
Kevin was divorced in 2017 and spent eight months in what he describes as a debilitating stretch of anger, sadness and confusion before finding the Rebuilding program. At the time it was available only in a handful of places. Making it available everywhere became the organisation's founding purpose.
He came to this from engineering, which shapes how Rebuilders operates more than anything else about it. The emphasis on measurement over testimonial, the published outcome data, the decision to release the limitations alongside the findings — all of that traces back to a habit of not trusting a claim you have not measured.
He developed the RIFT framework, which reorganises Dr. Fisher's nineteen rebuilding blocks into four phases a professional can hold in mind during a session.
Can speak to: divorce recovery data, why the field lacks measurement, the Fisher method, running programs internationally.
Nick Meima
Co-founder · Lead Divorce Coach and Lead Course Facilitator
Nick has spent twenty years seeing clients in private practice and is the most experienced facilitator in the organisation. He delivers the programs and trains the people who deliver them elsewhere.
His training is unusually broad for this work: counselling psychology, marriage and family therapy, and gerontology, alongside formal training in group facilitation and organisational consulting. The group facilitation background matters more than it might appear — a ten-week class of forty people is a very different instrument from a one-to-one session, and most clinicians have never been taught to run one.
He is also a co-founder of After Divorce Support.
CREDENTIALS AND TRAINING
Can speak to: what happens inside a ten-week program, common patterns in recovery, group facilitation, the method's history.
Anne Marsh, LCSW
Expert Divorce Coach
Anne is a licensed clinical social worker with more than thirty years working with individuals, families and groups in therapy. She is also a graduate of the program she now teaches.
In June 2018 her twenty-nine-year relationship and twenty-five-year marriage ended abruptly. Within a month she had the Rebuilding book in hand and was attending Nick Meima's ten-week workshop online. She describes the workshop and the book as the guideposts she used to build a life afterwards, and she went on to train as a facilitator.
Thirty years of clinical practice did not exempt her from needing the program. That is worth stating plainly, because it is the most common assumption a licensed clinician brings to this training — that professional knowledge substitutes for a framework built specifically for divorce.
CREDENTIALS
Can speak to: clinical practice with divorcing clients, therapist training, what practitioners get wrong, the experience from both sides.
Kathryn Beachy
Divorce and Relationship Coach
Kathryn is a certified Divorce and Transformational Love Coach with over a decade of coaching experience and twenty-three years as a leader in mind-body wellness.
She navigated her own divorce in 2013 and found her way into this work afterwards. Her approach integrates emotional recovery with the physical and somatic side of it, which covers territory the framework touches but does not fully address — the part of divorce that is carried in the body rather than thought through.
She is based in Colorado with her three children.
CREDENTIALS
Can speak to: the somatic side of divorce recovery, dating and readiness, rebuilding intimacy after divorce.
Four people, and four divorces. Two licensed clinicians, two certified coaches, and a combined fifty-plus years of practice.
None of us came to this academically. We came to it because it happened to us.
That is not a credential and we do not present it as one. What it produces is a particular kind of impatience: with advice that sounds reasonable and does not work, with the instinct to tell someone it gets better with time, and with claims nobody has measured.
It is also why Anne's story is the one we point professionals toward. A clinician with thirty years of experience still needed a framework built for this specific thing. Most of the people we train arrive believing they do not.
Facilitators running Rebuilders programs in their own communities are independent practitioners with their own credentials and their own bios. They are listed with their local programs rather than here.
